I believe it was the most powerful revolver until the .44 magnum was created. It can hold a charge of 70 grains of black powder,

SSG Tom Pike - I think the .41 Mag took the title until the .44 Mag took over. The Walker Colt was the bad boy for a long time though.

That it was, if I remember from some reading somewhere, buffalo hunters used this revolver at close range when hunting from horseback.

Never had the delite of seeing or firing a 1847 Walker revolver type, but it must be fun. Black power is one thing I never did, we don't have a resource here on Guam for black power. Something I missed, and never really had the chance to do, like cowboy shooting competition.
I do still have fun shooting my S&W 29-2 though.
