On July 28, 1965, LBJ sends 50,000 more soldiers to Vietnam (total of 125,000). From the article:
"28 July -
President Johnson ordered an increase in the number of U.S. troops in South Vietnam to 125,000 and an increase in the draft of young Americans into the military from 17,000 to 35,000 per month, but he declined to activate the Reserve and National Guard. Johnson's announcement represented a quantum leap in the American commitment and was followed quickly by massive increases in the number of U.S. troops deployed to South Vietnam."

PO3 Bob McCord - He passed away a few years ago from Agent Orange. I just know he was in that first group of ground troops in '65. He was very humble about his tour there.
