2018 NYC Fleet Week: Parade of Ships Report by #SALRadio

Fleet Week returns to New York City; ships announced

NORFOLK, VA (NRMA) – Five U.S. Navy ships, three U.S. Coast Guard cutters, four U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) Yard Patrol boats (YPs), one Military Sealift Command ship, and two Royal Canadian Navy vessels will participate during 2019 Fleet Week New York (FWNY), May 22-28. It is anticipated that approximately 2,600 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate this year.

Ship and pier locations include:

Manhattan, Pier 88: (Tours will be closed Sunday, May 26)

• San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21), from Mayport, Florida will embark several hundred Marines from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
• Kingston-class coastal defence vessel HMCS Glace Bay (MM 701), from Canadian Forces Base Halifax

Manhattan, Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, Pier 86:

• Four USNA YPs, from Annapolis, Maryland (Vessels depart Saturday, May25)
• Sentinel-class cutter USCGC Lawrence O. Lawson (WPC 1120), from Cape May, New Jersey
• Sail training vessel HMCS Oriole (KC 480), from Canadian Forces Base Halifax

Brooklyn Cruise Terminal: (Located in the Red Hook Community)

• Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Hué City (CG 66), from Mayport, Florida – (Scheduled to arrive Saturday, May 25)

Homeport Pier, Staten Island:

• Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109), from Norfolk, Virginia

• Freedom-class littoral combat ship USS Milwaukee (LCS 5), from Mayport, Florida
• Keeper-class cutter USCGC Katherine Walker (WLM 552), from Bayonne, New Jersey
• Medium endurance cutter USCGC Campbell (WMEC 909), from Kittery, Maine

Kings Point (U.S. Merchant Marine Academy): (Not open for general public tours)

• Cyclone-class patrol coastal ship USS Tornado (PC 14), from Mayport, Florida

Bronx/SUNY Maritime College: (Not open for general public tours)

• Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport USNS Burlington (T-EPF-10)

Ship tours will be conducted throughout the week in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note: Ship tours will be closed Sunday, May 26 on Pier 88 in Manhattan, and ship tours in Brooklyn will only be available Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27.

Ship tours on Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, Pier 86, will be conducted daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note: USNA YP’s are scheduled to depart Saturday, May 25.
