In Opinion: Why the Rebel Flag should be put away for good

SGT (Join to see) - you are absolutely correct . our problem to day is the minority (not racial) in this country now have the power to change anything they do not like or want. we used to be a majority rules but not any more. exactly correct in that if we erase or delete history we will repeat it and that does not unite but divides. we the people must stand up for the majority again. as the Col said my two cents worth. could say a lot more but wont at this time.

The "hate it has revolved into" is not exactly true. That "Hate" has always been there. And the Flag has always been a symbol of that hate. Hate of what one may ask. Easy answer is Democracy. A place where all the people have a vote in who represents them in the government. A place where 'we the people' hold the power. Much of the problems we see coming to a head in this country are fueled by hate. And if a flag becomes the symbol of that hate, what should be done?

LT William Pellegrini - I respectyour opinion but don't fully agree. The original flag was the symbol of a union of states that were not being responsibly represented and blown off in US government at the time. Therefore, they chose to secede. At that point I don't think the hate was there just the angry voices of not beingheard and taken seriously in government. Now, fast forward post civil war. Hate groups such as the KKK et al took on the flag as their symbol of White pride. That was hate and that is what it evolved into. IMHO. Again, thanks for the comments and keepingit civil. I don't think it should fly on government buildings. I think the only flag that should fly is the US flag, not the pride flag, BLM flag, or any flag representing one specific group.... our flag that represents us all.

Hmmm Interesting take on what caused the Civil War. When you pump out all the smoke and noise you get down to the one thing the Southern Slave States could not, would not agree to. That was with the election of Lincoln as President, a man who was against slavery, struck fear in the hearts of the big land owners. They were the people who would be most affected by the demise of slavery. Adding to their fear of losing power in Government was the obvious rise of the Capitalist Companies in the North who used under paid workers to produce products. Also they ignored Lincolns program or idea, of letting new States vote on Slavery when they joined the Union. Most of the western states were already voting against slavery so that was an added loss of power. Added all up it became one step over the line. They, the major slave owners, pushed for the secession from the United States. You can talk about all the noise around freedom etc. but the real reason was their Slave Economy. If they lost the slaves their economy would take a hit. The meeting with Lincoln with the Confederate V.P. late in the war was proof of that. They couldn't get their heads around changing from a slave economy to a paid worker economy. And over half a million American men and women paid the ultimate price for their lack of flexibility.

erase history from the beginning of time. who needs history. lets all just do what we think is what we want since we don't have any idea what happened in the past. oh that's right we erased the past. we can learn from nothing since we have nothing to look at for example. lets tear down the Lincoln, Washington . Jefferson and all other statues. destroy any paintings . lets destroy the 1st American flag. just destroy it all. at least we now can start anew. Sound stupid ?? it is but that is the way this country is going now. i dont like that tear it down. rip it up . burn it. that is not what this nation was built on . we have changed so much in the past 80n years i have been on this earth and it is so sad to see where we are headed. mayors. city and state governments doing away with law and order. federal government taking away individual rights for the sake of the nation. in the name of healing and bringing together we are tearing apart and dividing this nation just as fast as we can and literally destroying ourselves from within. my two cents worth

And the really sad part about all this. the History, unabridged and factual, is right there in the local and school libraries. Written by men and women who lived it, or took the time to research the subject of the history they write about. But somehow History has become the most unimportant subject taught in schools at all levels. The results being where we find ourselves today. On the brink of a 2nd Civil War.
