While understandable and probably honorable, what comes back to me is George Patton's statement, (paraphrased), don't die for your country, make the other SOB die for his. I will never understand why our people and forces go to fight for a country whose citizens are running for the USA or any other country rather than fighting for theirs.

MCPO Roger Collins - Interesting that you would bring that up, but I believe that most Kurds of fighting age, both men and women are staying in the Kurdish areas and fighting. Isn't that where most of the American civilians are fighting?
Forget about the rest of those individuals that are not fighting for their land/tribal allegiance. Anyway most of those that are "running away" are actual trying to carry the fight outside their "homelands." Unfortunately the politicians for the most part are blind to this factoid.

Of course, if we confine our conversation to the Kurds, I am in total agreement, but that is a small area of the country doing so effectively. It's been said that the total complement of ISIS is 25,000, if the population of Iraq and Syria of fighting age stepped up, our citizens would be unnecessary. I am not diminishing the efforts of the Peshmerga. Or our citizens that chose to join them.

MCPO Roger Collins, Being a service member, I would think you might understand why our people go and fight for another country. No, you weren't clear about your respect for our people's courage, and wanting to join the Kurds war. What you said is completely the opposite of what you think you said. The Kurds are fighting for their country. This person fought alongside the Kurds, who are fighting for their country. They're not running away from anything. This American died while helping the Kurds. In the long run, he was fighting for our country too. If ISIS could be wiped out, in Syria, this person was fighting for America too. If that isn't patriotism, I don't know what is. I guess I'll never understand where you're coming from.
