It has both the correct rank insignia for the period and the correct rank on the tombstone. Just think, what insignia did George Washington wear as General and Commander in chief, of the army of the United Colonies?

I do know the rank was Lt Gen that I'm positive of, I know the shoulder boards with the tassels were in use then also. Some had them on one shoulder, others both, I never quite understood why. That being said, I knew of the posthumous promotion to Gen of the armies at the head of seniority, I'd read of that, I just also had read that the rank while he'd been alive was as I'd said, I'd heard that also on the kem burns civil war PBS classic documentary, in comparing him to Gen Grant, it was explicitly mentioned, so I looked it up thereafter, interesting thought though, many thanks.
