This news should not be surprising.
But it looks to me like the defense's explanation is lacking in honesty.
The defense thought and felt that it was important to know who a potential juror voted for in the last election?
Once you know all of the 'facts' and the court martial is over with what would YOUR verdict be?

I agree wholeheartedly that Berdahl deserves the same harsh punishment that the search team sent out to find him suffered at the hands of the enemy and that was death. I can't imagine trading eight good soldiers for this deserter. He is a piece of trash and should have been tried and shot in the field by orders from his commander for desertion. The fact that our Commander in Chief at the time traded an additional five Taliban hardliners for this deserter just adds insult to injury.
