I read the book, Tom Hanks is Forest Gump by Winston Groom which is nearly not the same as the movie. The adventures are different, the ending is different. The only things similar is Vietnam and being an idiot. Sammy is only similar to gump in the fact he saved his Brothers in combat. Sammy is a real hero not a Gump. Opinions vary.....
