One of the Turks working in our building was stopped at a red light when she was rear-ended by a taxi. The police came and while taking statements a black Mercedes rolled up and handed one of the police officers an envelope. Long story short - the police and later the court found her to be at fault. The judge stated that she should have gone through the red light to avoid the collision, since the police report indicated there was no cross-traffic (with a green light) at the time.
While I was there, Turkey's Supreme Court ruled that bribery didn't exist in the country; any extra funds a public official might be given were merely 'tips for exceptional service'.

IMO the only reason Turkey is in NATO is because they control access into the Black Sea (Turkish Straits) from The Med.
