The Soviet Union used to regulate copy machines fearing that they might be used to print unregulated newspapers for counter-revolutionary purposes. Should we regulate 3D printers fearing that they might be used to print unregulated weapons? (BTW, they could be used to produce knives. Just saying...) The simple fact is that we should drop all the arguing over our natural right to defend ourselves, and begin talking about how we live together as individuals, each with a natural right to defend ourselves (including keeping and bearing arms)

and one can purchase a used CNC or mill and crank out real metal working firearms in their garage for a lot less than a 3d printer.

SPC Alfred Cornelius - if you have a sheet metal break you can build an AK. Here is a link where a guy builds an AK out of a shovel. Bottom line is that if someone wants a gun, they dont need a high dollar printer to make one.
