There must be a special place in hell waiting for those who allow veterans to suffer like this.

There is a simple answer, Vets get the same medical coverage as congress. So either they use the VA or we get to use their free insurance.

Sir,
I read the article. It does not cover the clinical, or how long the veteran was in the VA care. One day? The son states he was there 21 days and asked for increased meds. Is this the same visit, or a second visit?
I'm not taking up for the VA. We need to know if the veteran just came in and died as opposed to being there for a few days/weeks. I have seen homeless vets (not many) refuse to call for help to the VA and have refused to take their medicine. It is hard to force non compliant patients to follow their doctor's orders. This is why I ask about the clinical. I fear this is a metal patient who may have come in many times and does not take care of themselves.
I can not be sure. The info is limited. This does not make it right that the patient died of an inflammatory process. I suspect, the suggestion of not caring on a person's resume caused those to quit. Rather than be associated with the death of a veteran. Even if that death was not their fault.
Again, not taking up for an organization that has to many horror stories. Just so you understand where I am coming from, I performed a DVT study on a patient that had maggots in their wound. The smell was of death. That patient had not followed their doctor's orders. He may have lost his leg. Gangrene smells bad.

Yup... when i moved to Seattle years later the most surprising thing (for me) was seeing signs EVERYWHERE that said (in effect) "if you haven't been seen in 15 minutes TELL SOMEONE!" ... they meant it...
