Thanks for letting us know SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. I am not surprised that the Obama administration does not want to confront China. Interestingly enough Hillary didn't mention China at all when hacking of US government-systems was discussed in the Presidential debate.
I hope our next POTUS has the balls to confront China :-)

It's called civilian control of the military. No admiral gets to decide what the national security strategy of the US will be. And while people seem to have this idea that presidens should defer to the generals, that's a bad idea. As this article points out, the admiral, when considering what he wants to do with China's sand grab, doesn't have to concern himself with other aspects of national power like economic or political. Maybe the US does need china's cooperation on other matters that will benefit the US more than this sand grab hurts (just a hypothetical example). Generals aren't in the loop on all negotiations in non military areas.

So while a certain policy may look good to a general from their limited standpoint, it might not make sense when looking across the whole range of global issues.
