When I am at the range, I always send a few using only one hand, sometimes I also shoot with my weak hand (my left). That helps me be realistic about what I can hit and at what distance.
I don't carry a knife as a rule. I find that if you cannot carry a gun into a building/location,they have usual forbid knives too.

Man here in Texas they just changed the law where you can carry anything but I carry a Gerber combat folder the only place I have found that you can't carry a knife is a federal building
