Who are the militia at US-Mexico border?
The term has a complex history.
The Militia Act of 1903 created the National Guard as a reserve for the Army, managed by each state with federal funding, and defined the "unorganised militia" as men between 17 and 45 years of age who were not part of the military or guard.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) defines current US militia groups as the armed subset of the anti-government movement.
These groups engage in military exercises and gun training, and generally believe in conspiracies regarding the federal government.
They focus on protecting second amendment rights - or the right to bear arms granted by the US constitution.

In Arivaca, residents have made it clear new new armed border militia groups not welcome.
This may have been the opening salvo in this struggle. The Gonzalez family may be the first KIA's of many such acts.
I can forsee a fire-fight developing between some of these terrorist groups and either between law enforcement officials, local Hispanics, or possibly armed drug cartel members.
I agree, there will be a firefight at some point with the militias and some other group. And there will be a bunch of people who claim there were good people on both sides, blah, blah, blah. They aren't domestic terrorists if they aren't muslims, etc. Meh.
There is some overlap of beliefs of the two groups. The post-Constitutional group wanted near-total autonomy and disagreed with paying taxes despite being official American citizens. Today's groups chose to attack federal government (i.e. attacking tax officials and occupation of Malheur Wildlife Refuge, etc.) based on desire to benefit from American infrastructure without wanting to abide by US law.
