My wife's great Uncle, Percy D. Hinton, fought in the Battle of Jutland aboard the HMS Champion. One of the sailors from their hometown Waltham Forest/Leyton England was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery posthumously. He was Jack Cornwall or Jutland Jack, tragically, he died in the battle at the age of 16.

Unmentioned in the article was the German's vastly superior gunnery, which poured deadly accurate fire on British battle cruisers in the initial phase of the engagement. This caused the British Commodore to turn away from an otherwise fair fight and drew in the dreadnaughts.
Late in the flight, a extremely brave charge by four German destroyers firing torpedoes forced the British battle line to maneuver and break contact in the gathering darkness, allowing the German High Seas fleet to elude pursuit.
This battle could have gone a very different way more than once, but excellent command, control and tactics led to the actual result. Both sides displayed superior seamanship throughout.
