Good information, but not completely correct.
What we look for in a PTSD claim is did the trauma inducing event occur in military service (many have childhood abuse or disorders such as alcoholism that are not necessarily in service, but are the cause of social and employment impairment). This is particularly piquant with MST claims, but comes into play for all of them.
Second, we look at the severity of impairment (once diagnosed). There are certain litmus tests for this that come out of the C&P exam, but we also look at marital history, service record, employment history, treatment under military and civilian doctors, and continuity of care as key indicators.
That last one trips up a lot of claims.
