I'll second what LTJG Richard Bruce as said.

There is a group for every tiny sentence in the Federal budget. Someone will be effected negatively for every change in the budget. Change is good for some and bad for others. Maybe it is good for those now, and bad for those 20 years from now, but there is no change that will not negatively effect someone.

As with the medias tremendous capability to sensationalize every little thing, and turn into a dramatic national or international issue. Change the money going to homeless, and a some super energetic reporter is going to find a homeless person and get them to tell how horrible this budget change will be for them. Its the same thing over and over again, about every point of everything.

You can't have an omelet without breaking some eggs.
You can't secure the nations finances 20-50 years from now without a wide range of immediate, short term pain

The Federal budget is in way too much debt, and the taxes are way too high. Taxes on everything. The short term pain is the budget needs to get smaller, and odds are taxes will have to stay high, or at least higher than what we want. Of course ideally taxes should go down too, but that I do not think is realistic.

Maybe its just my opinion, but a balanced budget is a high priority. Not as high as some other topics. but higher priority than some cuts to some budgets

We are deep deep in debt. The Federal Gov't must shrink. Those who think these agencies should be funded, raise private money. The public needs to wean itself off the Federal Gov't. Those who live in areas affected by natural disasters should work with state and local groups, not all from the Gov't, to prepare for the worst. I bought a house on a hill and away from the Florida coast to minimize damage from hurricanes. Why should I keep subsidizing those who want to live on the waterfront? They knew of the environmental risk and accepted it. Part of that acceptance is paying their fair share of insurance.

Every budget element has a constituent who will complain about cuts. The proposed cuts don't seem that deep to me especially in light of the fact that 50% of the budget is being borrowed.
