For now, everybody can post recommended readings to the "Books" group:
https://www.rallypoint.com/topics/books

Admins (and posters) should tag all book discussions with "Books", and that can be a place to keep track of all discussions on recommended readings...

Stole the words off my keyboard.

And members can collaborate on creating a professional reading list on the about page!

Here I thought you were going to do a weekly reading suggestion and then have us discuss it. I love the idea either way and would love to see this implemented. Possibly have a place to drop book recommendations with possible reviews and then even have a listing for "Rallypoint Reads" each month or something in that realm so we can discuss what we have read or are reading together to learn.

Great idea.

Sir, we can do that. I've been mulling this over for about a month debating whether to suggest it.

I think a master listing would be awesome, and the ability to review / suggest is "value added."

I'd like to do one for Films as well. Someone mentioned "The Last Castle" earlier, and "Das Boot" came up. There are just so many great films & moves out there, that service members should see, but no consolidated listing.

Some consolidation of "Professional Development Media" where there can be movies, books, speeches, tv shows, etc suggested and explained how they can be viewed for specific professional development. Possibly even have discussion groups on each one.

Might be ideal to have a master list under answers that links to each individual title that updates with each submitted thread. Not sure if that could be coded into the site here.

I would tend to say creating an adjunct library would be the way to go -BUT- most of the books recommended are copyrighted and could only be referenced due to copyright laws. That said, creating a list in a thread is the second best option that escapes that aforementioned problems.

My advice - be VERY careful doing that. I have run an internet library for conservative books going on 6 years now and copyright laws have a way of catching up when it's not expected. If the literature is copyrighted, until you get written permission from the author and publisher - it's best not to try that route.
You'd be better off just referencing the title/author in a site like this. The results of doing anything else could be poor at best and disastrous if given the circumstances.

CPT Richard Riley I would figure first sale doctrine would apply to any "real" (second hand) copies that exist, much like Ebay or Amazon's third party/used vendors.

I don't know enough about Amazon's Lending Library to speak about it.

I am not advocating any violation of copyrighted material, hence my question to the RP Team about Amazon Banners and the ability to have a portal through the RP Site (keep this pirate ship afloat is a reference to the Adam Carolla podcast, meaning money to keep the doors open).

The Amazon portal would quell some of the issue in that those who wish to read the literature would purchase a copy, either eBook or physical. I guess I mistook the notion of "exchange" to mean that a copy would be passed around - opening the door to a problem. This issue is running the gambit with music as well as literature and the gatekeepers are attempting to monetize every aspect of it to keep pace with technology.

Between two people, oftentimes what they do with a copy is between them ... once it opens up to a group (public or private) the Pandora's box opens.

CPT Richard Riley I presented multiple ideas, just because I don't know what the RP Team has planned.

I'm a firm believer of "make it convenient" and people will use the resource. An Amazon portal (with RP Blessing) is probably as convenient as it gets, and meets the conceptual needs.
