I was attacked by dogs several times in my youth, and I still have a slight fear of strange dogs. The worst was getting knocked down, hitting my head, and then bit on my arm and elbow. It could have been worse.

I'm sorry to hear that Sarge. I know that it can be. The only dogs I'm afraid of our police dogs. One of the last apprehensions I made as a civilian cop was a car thief. Allied agencies have been chasing him for quite some time and they entered our city. I was in an unmarked unit stopped at the stop sign and just sitting there and I see this cat running across the lawn of this apartment complex. I was the passenger and I waited for him to commit himself to getting halfway over the fence at which time I jumped out and helped him to the ground. Face first. I'm taking him into custody and somebody had released a dog. So now I got a dog in my face and at that point it's like all right mr. Dog handler, you can cuff him. Lol. I don't like dog bites even if it's a friendly fire incident.

Yet they say pitbulls are wonderful, loving pets. I've seen a lot of pictures showing very affectionate pets. The problem as I see it though is that they're unpredictable. You also don't know how one pit has been treated versus another. I will grant you that it may be the way that they are raised. I suppose if you raise a baby pit with a a baby kitten they will have an affection for one another for life. All they know is they're family. The same with the people around them. But what if a cat from the neighbor's yard walks in? That pit will destroy that cat. It's not part of the family.

We've had cats and dogs all my life. I have four cats now and unfortunately don't have a fenced yard up here in the mountains so I can't have a dog. Otherwise I certainly would. I moved up here to the mountains to be at one with nature. To see the squirrels a squirreling. To see the raccoons a raccooning. Not to see the pit bulls we've got running loose up here that scare the hell out of people.
