How are you Robert? A friend of mine with whom I was working closely with getting ready to go back to this year's "brick and mortar school" last week, has been exposed to COVID, and two of her children have it. One of my friends and her friends caught it; unfortunately, she inadvertently gave it to hear mother, and her mother died. I am going back to school a week from Monday. I feel badly for those who haven't face down death at least once in their lives. Robert, if something happens to me, a high risk patient, please help my wife. She is worth consoling and knowing who I was.

SGT (Join to see), Your friends here on RP will definitely step up, and I promise to take the lead. I know this is something that takes years of advance planning, but is retirement an option? I realize your work is a labor of love for you because all the effort you put into education, including mine, but there comes a time when you have to look at priorities. Your highest priority is to yourself, your wife and the rest of your family. Then comes your other close friends, coworkers and your students. I have already read about school districts shutting down because the teachers have put their feet down -- refusing to return to work in a face to face environment. We live in a very divided society because of COVID-19, but don't let others drag you into the debate. Do what you have to do for you, and every other opinion on such things as masks, social distance and self isolation be damned. Put you and your loved ones first. If you are vested in your retirement, perhaps you may need to accept an amount less than you had once hoped. If you qualify for Social Security benefits, and I know a lot of teachers and other government workers do not, see if you can't live within or below your undoubtedly reduced benefit from that program. You owe this to yourself and your bride. Don't let it be a decision about money, and find another way to continue your labor of love. I'll leave you with this thought:

What if you catch it, survive in spite of being in a high risk group, but give it to you wife and she does not survive? Give this whole thing a lot of thought and don't let anyone other than your wife tell you what is the best approach for you.

SGT Robert Pryor - Unfortunately, I need two years to retire to make sure my wife gets my pension. I'll tough it out. You know I love my job, but it will require a lot of common sense planning. If any online positions open, believe me, I would take one. Those were scooped up immediately! Thanks for your support Robert! It is good to know you have friends with whom I can depend. My lifelong friend, Dan Tasseff, whose father Ernie Tasseff was an original SF member from 1954 until 1968 will definitely take care of Barb if something were to happened to me. Thanks for all your support. Please take care of you wonderful family! With all you have done and had to go through, please stay safe! Florida and Texas are definitely on the front lines. And don't forget, those hurricanes are a 'Coming. Stay safe!

Your friend,
David

The historical account was that he fought to the end and was beat about the head and shoulders at the end.
