The idea of rare earth element mining as saving the planet while destryong the environment is hypocritical to the nth degree. The same enviro-nuts are more than willing kill thousands of birds in the name of environmentalism too.

I like the idea of hydrogen, H2, being the future. Fusion is still too far away and some scientists have found a way to extract hydrogen from oil deposits, leaving the carbon behind. That means, the petroleum industry is closer to a solution than any of the other option. With the abundance of hydrogen, it would be the cheapest fuel source ever and allow innovation into fuel cells and H powered vehicles much quicker.
