Thanks for sharing on Presidents Day SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
I would have hoped that President Washington and Lincoln's birthday would be kept as Holidays since both of them were truly humble despite teh great impact they had on this nation. It would have been wonderful if Martin Luther King;s birthday could have been added as a holiday instead of eliminating those birthdays as holidays.

I grew up with the "mythology" of George Washington. You know, the stories of cutting down the cherry tree, tossing a dollar across the Potomac, etc. (My childhood birthday cakes were festooned with cherries to commemorate the fact that we shared the same natal date) When I learned that these were fabricated to create an aura of "divine selection" in hopes that he would be named king, I became curious and set out to learn who he really was. The man I discovered was just that, a man. Not a god. Not a demigod. Not a man selected by divine province to rule over the rest of us. A mere mortal man, just like the rest of us. I then began looking at the other Founding Fathers and discovered the same. It then occurred to me that if mere mortals could do great things, why couldn't I. Sadly, I haven't created a nation, but I have fought (am still fighting) to preserve one. The odds are mounting against those of us who share the vision these mere mortals had, and at times we are faltering. We may even be headed for our own Valley Forge. Still, we must fight on for the Constitution, liberty, and freedom from the tyrannical cancer that grows ever stronger in the District of Calamity. Don't look to politics for leaders. We still have Washington's and his words remain relevant today. Be heartened by them and be the leader your community needs. Who better than those of us who serve/served?
