The local university has a speakeasy nearby that is reserved only for active duty members or veterans. I haven't gone myself, but my best friend whom I have served with frequents there. I may check it out soon and introduce them to RallyPoint if they haven't been on or seen it.

To add to this, there is also a VFW near my apartment. It looks really shady so I haven't set foot in yet.

We outgrow high school and universities as well, but there are always the ones that are still involved with where their roots are. Of course there is always the passing of the torch to the next individual so that the organization keeps growing and maintains their values. It's really hard to maintain.

SSG Bethany Viglietta - There also has been growing success with the IAVA and social organizations like Team RWB, Team Rubicon and Missions Continues.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA)
IAVA is a small nonprofit with a humble operating budget. In order to get the biggest bangs for our meager bucks we must take maximum advantage of technology. We're lucky in the sense that today the internet and many great tools allow us to organize and connect with our national membership in ways that would have been impossible 10 years ago. Since our beginning, online platforms have been central to our outreach, and we've grown steadily....

Thanks for sharing! This article is on point for today's veterans. While I am currently looking for a veterans organization to serve, the points of this article definitely speak to me. I've gone into the VFW (Haven't checked out the American Legion yet) and by the time I left, somehow I smelled like smoke down to my socks even though the post was to be mostly "nonsmoking". Living a healthy lifestyle, the current atmosphere of the VFW doesn't fit what I am looking for. The article hits the nail on the head for the type of organization I would want to serve.

SSG Carlos Madden - No worries. I have been chatting with another female army veteran about perhaps starting a chapter or organization for veterans in Northern Nevada and Tahoe Area. Sadly as females we didn't feel welcome in the "traditional organizations". I know the Post Officers are looking to recruit female and younger veterans, but again the atmosphere doesn't fit. So she and I are doing research on how to either open a chapter of an organization that fits or create our own organization. I am excited to see where it goes and who we can help/mentor along the way.

SSG Bethany Viglietta - Great idea and best of luck. If there's a way for RallyPoint to support it, please let us know!
