A good review. I would also have a backup navigation system and an atlas doesn't hurt either.

I always have a new atlas on hand. been through the gps thing a time or 2. but it's really handy going through a city. you should also get an ezpass if traveling on toll roads. Many of them don't take cash anymore. Plus Chicago is a bitch without it

It's alot easier if your not traveling 90-94 . we generally stay on 80 and head for Des Moines then north and try and avoid as much of the Twin Cities as possible. Only a couple of tolls on the I 80 in Chicago but be there before or after rush hour

MAJ Cho, Now that I'm retired, I reserve my air travel to only overseas vacation trips. Otherwise, i'm doing the bulk of my travel on land to see the country in a whole new prospective. Fun seeing the world and the difference between east to west, and north to south. Love the extra time off to travel at my own speed and time. More relaxing most times too.

I like the car travel too. don't see anything at 30000ft and you can stop where ever you want. On 1 trip we went through the Ozarcks and stopped in West Plains Mo. for the nite. The boss lady said lets go see what the town looks like. Went to the old general store and found out we were in Porter Waggner , Preacher Roe and Jan Howard's home town. The store had a museum dedicated to them. Never know what you will find on a road trip
