SSgt Mark Lines - Yeah... started with Slackware on floppies... moved to Debian then SuSe & Redhat... used to run Redhat 5 on a SUN workstation. Taught college classes using SuSe & Fedora. When Redhat started messing eith their drivers i went to Ubuntu... slowly gravitated to Knoppix, good drivers, small footprint, robust development platform.

To butt in, I still recommend Ultimate Boot CD and UNetBootin for any tech. It has a free edition of PartedMagic and more.

Iboot from a thumb drive because everyone doesn't have a CD/DVD. I use LinuxLive because it handles all linux distros. I use knoppix because it has gpartd... and most importantly, i use knoppix because it is an excellent hacking platform... backtraq & STD are built on knoppix.

Sgt Wayne Wood - I will have to give Knoppix a try in the future. I am all self-taught when it comes to Linux. Now that I am retired and a "house-husband", because I do not want to go through the "game" of getting a work permit in Thailand, I am looking to learn more. I am looking for a good online course that I can use my GI Bill with.

While I mainly run Linux on my laptop. I also use it as my OS on my Home Theater PC with Kodi as my Desktop Environment. It gives my HTPC a high Wife Approval Factor, because she can turn it on and choose what she wants to watch.

yes. the security model is inherently more secure and with the addition of the trusted workstation features, much more so. we should keep in mind that Micro$lop has yet to produce a platform certified by the NSA as a Trusted Platform. The UNIX/Linux world has (Trusted Solaris)
