Let's try this again... The Americal was In-Activated on Nov. 29th, 1971 from Vietnam.

A Warrant that I had in Germany wore the Americal Division patch on his right shoulder. He fought with them.

In Vietnam, yes. It was originally called Task Force Oregon and was made up of three separate light Infantry brigades--the 11th, 196th and 198th. However, its history traced back to WWII in the Pacific when it was formed from Infantry regiments in New Caledonia. The name AMERICAL was an acronym for "American Forces in New Caledonia."
