One of the latest attempts to improve recruiting is to relax recruiting standards for fitness and pot use. Another recruiting recommendation is to "Showcase the benefits of military service. “talk about service and what it does for the country,” but less about “what it does for the individual.” Even better is to increase the recruitment bonus up to $50,000.
The first idea will get us a force of overweight, out-of-shape servicemembers high on pot! Second idea amplifies what the potential recruit already knows - we don't care about the individual servicemember! After that we can promise bonuses and fail to pay - similar to the National Guard...
The simple problem with recruitment is that we are not competitive when compared to the civilian market. The BS about the military turning "Woke" is not the issue, we just don't treat our servicemembers with dignity and respect. We should never have military families on Snap or food stamp programs. Our single servicemembers deserve adequate living quarters and dining facilities. If we promise a bonus - pay it!... Basically, if all the services provided adequate living conditions, a proper health care system, and comparable compensation, we would be well on our way to attaining an new and dedicated military force.
