Official statement from the Navy:
"Adm. Scott Swift, commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet, today relieved the commander of Seventh Fleet, Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command.
Rear Adm. Phil Sawyer, who has already been nominated and confirmed for the position and promotion to vice admiral, will assume command immediately."

That's a crock Aucoin cannot send all his junior officers back to Conneticut so they can attend Ship handling School before they can stand OOD. and the Skipper is the one who did not have lookouts on the bridge and sponsons, if they were not there, and if they were, they were FRIGGING BLIND! How can you NOT see a behemoth with a thousand trailer boxes stacked on it especially when it has its running lights on. I do not understand....

Totally expected, more to come. It will be interesting how they arrive at the root cause for this systemic problem. The 7th Fleet is just the tip of the iceberg, 2/3 are below the surface.

And I believe the reasons stated are accurate, and four more years passed that eliminate even more leaders with the experience and training essential to becoming a CO//XO/CMDMCPOs. We are left with politically correct, but limited ability. JMHO, I've been retired for a long time.
