From what I saw over there, if you keep throwing money at the problem in Afghanistan and showing green bubbles on slides to show progress - this is what you get. And the press has not made a big enough deal about it. Very frustrating. You would figure - as that is the part of the world where over 90% of the worlds opium/poppy and its derivates come from that the US and other first world nations would try to truly solve the problem and not just slap a Band-Aid on it and call it progress.

Agreed. RC-East should be infamous for money wasted on projects. It begs the question....who has more power the governments themselves or those who push drugs worldwide? We've thrown millions teaching farmers to plant crops other than those used for drugs, and in the end, they go back to drugs due to the fast money.

As you clearly already know...in AF the drug money controls their gov't instead of the other way around. And as they are a sovereign nation, you know how that goes. Great article-share!
