Gee, Colonel, how many children to you have to drug and mutilate before it's wrong? The fact the NPR printed such an article doesn't surprise me, but the contention is just stupid. There are decisions that we don't allow children and teen to make, age of sexual consent, smoking, and drinking, just off the top of my head, but we should think that a 12 year old knows enough to want a sex change? DUH!

England just stopped all adolescents "Gender Care" and Sweden is the only EU country that allows it under 18 (allow it at 16 with a number of restrictions). If you want to do stupid things as an adult, that is your problem, but those that allow their children to "transition" and everyone that helps them should be in prison.

CPT Lawrence Cable Firearm deaths are a much greater public health concern than gender-affirming care. If people really cared about kids, they’d start with complaining much more about school shootings and other firearm-related deaths among our youth. Until they do, this rhetoric about gender-affirming care isn’t really about being concerned for children.

LTC Kevin B. - Is that an argument? The ATF reference to state and federal Firearm laws and regulations is 267 pages long, minors aren't allowed to purchase firearms, most states require adult supervision ( I will note that I grew up in a rural area with access to firearms and we didn't shoot each other), there are laws on access, laws against murder, etc. Maybe if the places with high murder rates started enforcing those thousands of laws, that rate would go down.
You're condoning permanent surgical and/or chemical changes to the body of someone we don't allow to buy a beer or a pack of cigarettes. How do you justify that?

CPT Lawrence Cable - I'm not justifying gender-affirming care. I'm pointing out that the conservative arguments under the guise of "protecting children" falls completely flat when much larger threats to children continuously go unaddressed. If conservatives really cared about children, they'd take steps to make sure they are safe in schools, get a good education, have access to healthy food, have access to healthcare, etc. Ignoring gun violence in our schools, dismantling educational oversight, cutting healthcare funding, etc., are all examples where conservative policies directly conflict with their political rhetoric. This line of talking points about gender-affirming care really isn't about protecting children. They're just too scared to openly admit that.

You mean safe schools like in Detroit, Baltimore and Chicago? The school systems there really produce some "outstanding" students. Isn't "Healthy food" the reason RFK left the Democrats?
You want to save children and young adults, try starting with the Democratic Cesspools like I mentioned above. But it so much easier to blame it on people that didn't screw it up and aren't in charge of fixing it.
