I had a roommate in college that was the only person I ever met that I truly believed was a pacifist. When Roger got his draft notice, he joined the Navy as a conscientious objector, so they assigned him as a Navy Corpman. While a Navy Corpman
is technically a non-combatant, they neglected to inform him that one of the duty positions for Navy Corpman was the medic for Marine line units. He landed in Vietnam just prior to the Tet Offensive. I knew Roger for a couple of years before he ever talked about that part of his life.
