Interesting list, MSgt George Cater. There are many others, of course. As long as the CSA has been included, I thought I might throw this man and his nickname into the pot also.
"Colonel John Singleton Mosby (December 6, 1833 – May 30, 1916), also known by his nickname, the 'GRAY GHOST', was a Confederate army cavalry battalion commander in the American Civil War. His command, the 43rd Battalion, Virginia Cavalry, known as Mosby's Rangers or Mosby's Raiders, was a partisan ranger unit noted for its lightning-quick raids and its ability to elude Union Army pursuers and disappear, blending in with local farmers and townsmen. The area of northern central Virginia in which Mosby operated with impunity was known during the war and ever since as Mosby's Confederacy. After the war, Mosby became a Republican and worked as an attorney and supported his former enemy's commander, U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. He also served as the American consul to Hong Kong and in the U.S. Department of Justice." (Wikipedia) Maj Marty Hogan

Great point. Mosby has my vote, too. His AO was just south of Quantico where I enjoyed being for 4 years. I recall watching a TV show about him way back as a kid.

Tod Andrews starred as Mosby, MSgt George Cater. It aired for one season ('57-'58), and I watched every episode I could.

MSgt George Cater, I just thought of this. At beginning of each show, as the credits ran, "Mosby" would say:
"Both North and South, they know my fame.
Gray Ghost is what they call me.
John Mosby is my name.

I always liked CHAOS “Colonel Has An Outstanding Solution.” but I am also a big fan of 31 knot Burke and the story behind that. I got to meet him once when we won the award named after him.

PO2 Marty Sharpe
I read a biography of Admial Burke. It really appears he was a gifted and approachable man and admiral.

He was unfortunately by the time I met him he was really sick. We had dinner with him and Bobbie talk most of the time, man she was a good story teller and adored her husband as did many.
