9 Years Into Common Core, Test Scores Are Down, Indoctrination Up

Who really needs to understand numbers and math at a conceptual level? Indeed, just requiring algebra for graduation from high school is suspect. Common Core (and I've looked at it) attempts to teach process rather than cyphering (that's what we used to call arithmetic) is a waste of time for anyone who is not going to be using math at that level (scientists, programmers, etc). Look at accounting. Understanding debits and credits as well as double entry accounting methods, is the real challenge. The math is actually quite simple. Adding and subtracting mostly. Occasionally multiplying and dividing for relief from the tedium. So what really was the point of Common Core? It seems to me that it was a power grab, moving control of education from communities to the District of Calamity, so that money could be filtered through the hands of bureaucrats before being redistributed to local schools. And, as this article confirms, results are not only not improved, but also deteriorating. Central control of everything is the bane of socialism. It is why socialism fails every time.
