Even after leaving a 27-year career in the DoD, I am honored I still have a role in protecting this country and our partners overseas. My company Mandiant is actively paying attention to the public sphere of social media and observing the attempts of an enemy I have studied and defended against for almost three decades, to use cyber operations against the American people. They are pushing human influence operations through cyber to increase divisiveness in this country (and globally for that matter) and there are plenty of Americans who do not even realize they're serving as nothing more than useful tools for the Chinese government.
