Manning was a disaster from the moment of his enlistment. Frankly, that he ever got a clearance at all, let alone the Jared Kushner failure at a TS/SCI which is kind of needed to run a SCIF or be in a SCIF unaccompanied. The Manning "expert" thing is rather part of our basic tendency to view everything in Black and White terms. Given the results of both investigations, I'd say they've cleaned up their act a bit --since disqualifying information was available on Manning's stinking Facebook page -- and the investigative process has totally changed, or Kushner's problems are absolutely amazing. I suspect some of both, but mainly improved process. However in both cases, authorities didn't act properly on the completed investigations.

Manning has some experience in problems in Military Prisons, and can talk at length to the problems resulting from civil disobedience. Really doesn't have anything relevant to say about general government service. But, Iraq bad, Bush admin bad, therefore Manning good. No -- Iraq invasion and results bad, Bush admin mixed but will be judged by the Iraq war and the cut of his flight suit, and Manning was a pathetic loser who was acting out a fantasy and now doesn't want to pay for the ticket.
