Sending this out for any of those who served with our Afghan interpreters (and other supporting tasks). Many have managed to earn their Special Immigration Visas, many have not. Currently many of us are organizing to assist those we are still in touch with and/or have families in danger in Afghanistan. If you are still in touch with those Afghans who assisted our efforts while we were deployed with them, reach out to them and ask if you can help. I called one of my interpreters (now as US citizen living here in the US) to check in on him and tell him how sorry I felt for the state of his country. I also told him to let me know if there is anything I could do for him. Two days later he called and asked for help by writing a letter for the US Embassy in Kabul to request an emergency evacuation authorization for his two brothers, their wives, and two nephews. Not only did I send the letter, but I organized the members of my unit who worked with him to do the same.
These brave people do not deserve what is happening to them and their families right now. Please, reach out to you Afghan contacts to offer your assistance. It's the least we can do.
