The man accused of carrying out the worst mass murder in New Zealand’s modern history, one that left 49 people dead and more than 40 others wounded at two mosques in Christchurch, was identified in court documents on Saturday as Brenton Harrison Tarrant, 28. The suspect, who officials said is an Australian citizen, was charged with one count of murder, and more were expected to come.
Three other people were detained by the police, though one was released hours later. An 18-year-old local man was charged with “intent to excite hostility or ill-will,” but court officials would not elaborate.

Probably because the gun laws were more lax than in Australia. The New Zealand Prime Minister plans to change that. Funny how it only takes one of these for most countries.

SPC Robert Conway - That could be, I'm not acquainted with what the guns laws were in New Zealand. I wondered if He had that many firearms but wasn't even a citizen.

SPC Robert Conway. On checking I see New Zealand has 1.4 million gun owners, You do have to be licensed to carry a firearm. firearms themselves don't have to be registered. There are different classes permits to determine what type You can and cannot carry. Obtaining a permit does require psychological and criminal background checks. Local police Chiefs are the ones to determine if a person its fit to be issued a firearms permit to allow them to have or carry firearms.

All I know is the Prime Minister seemed pretty certain she was going to make a change. If people are coming there to shoot guns from Australia, I can understand completely. As I implied, I wish the US could be impacted to change after a slaughter, but we aren't that smart.
