Thanks for sharing an intriguing article PO1 William "Chip" Nagel.
Everything that exists was certainly created by God. Many things are clearly good for us and many are clearly bad. The many which are in the gray area are interesting because they can be good or bad.
1. Hemp is related to the marijuana plane and hemp has been useful for making rope.
2. The poppy is a pleasant plant to look at and yet it produces opium which can be smoked and can be modified to produce heroin which is generally bad and morphine which may be good or bad and methadone which may be good or bad.
3. Coco is used to produce cocaine. Until 1903 Coca Cola contained a small amount of cocaine.
Opium and cocaine were not illegal until late in the 19th century and people in high society [pun intended] used those drugs to get high.

If marijuana can be developed or useful chemicals extracted from it which can offer relief to those suffering from PTSD and other aliments, then I would be in favor of its use.
First step would be for the Federal government to decriminalize those components of this specially-bred marijuana so that it could used until an affordable synthetic version could be developed.
Disclaimer: in my youth I gained familiarity with cocaine, marijuana, and opium - all included in my security clearance paperwork. Honesty is always the best policy.
Thanks for mentioning me SMSgt Minister Gerald A. Thomas

When and why were the opiates and cocaine outlawed?
The use of opiates became widespread in the US in the latter part of the 19th Century. Morphine became widely available with its use during the Civil War and heroin became available in 1894. Opiates were sold widely in the form of patent medicines, and were freely available to anyone who wanted to buy them, children included. Many patent medicines were fifty percent morphine, and morphine, cocaine, and heroin were even included in things such...

Good Point Colonel. There is No Completely Harmless Drugs but Compared to Heroin, Morphine, Oxycontin, Cocaine, Crack, Crank, Alcohol, THC is the Least of our Problems. The Only danger from THC other than Navigating while High is that it suppresses the Gag Reflex that makes it great for those on Chemo Therapy but a recipe for Disaster for those abusing Alcohol at the same time (I know I've done it) Begging for Alcohol Poisoning.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I found this to be an interesting read. I don't use Marijuana and hope that medically I never have to, but I know a lot of veterans and others who swear by it that use it for medical purposes. I think that more studies should be conducted to understand ALL underlying 2nd and 3rd order affects. Just my opinion. In the end I'll never say anything bad about a veteran that is using it for the medical reasons necessary and it is providing a degree of comfort for whatever the debilitating reason is. Just my two cents! PS. I stay way from any and all political and theological discussions - just being safe! LOL!

Always Wise Colonel! I grew up smoking it and even in my Early Navy Career I partook a little. Never busted eventually I was Appointed as a Urinalysis Coordinator for 2 Admiral Staff Commands where I learned even more. Of all the Drugs available that I know about, THC, Weed, Marijuana is the Least of My Concerns. Many more addictive and problematic drugs out there to include Alcohol.

He's not alone. Many don't understand the complete Medicinal Values to be had.
