Hard to vote "UP". Gut-wrenching...only a beast of a person isn't impacted by the atrocities inflicted by war; only a fool doesn't recognize that as brutal as it is, sometimes it is absolutely necessary to stand and fight. It is a terrible thing, that is why I joined. It is the reason I never want to fight on our soil. It is the reason for fighting this war in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or anywhere else but here.

I was more moved by the boys honor to his passed brother! At his age, he could have left him where he lay and went to seek help for himself. His courage and honor was more then those who started that war :(

That kind of personal discipline and honor was inculcated in them from childhood as a cultural practice. Our culture could use some of that foundational commitment and strength right now. Too many people taking offense or getting their feelings hurt by silly stuff. The weakness and frailty is irritating. Empathy is great, crippling self-absorbed emotional self-pity is weakness. that kid was a man.

Very little news posted about the fact that the US blockade of Japan was very effective. People literally starving to death and import of materials to manufacture armaments just about halted.

People think it was the two nuclear bombs...it was firebombing a nation whose cities were made of wood and paper. We firestormed all their major cities. By the time they capitulated they were wrecked.

Yes and we still needed to use atomic bombs to stave off an invasion which would have produced tragic losses on both sides.
