Thare was an incredible amount of racial strife in the Marine Corps, especially in Vietnam. The self-imposed segregation was extremely uncomfortable and not only sad, but often time dangerous. Racial strife was like a raw, festering wound.

Sarge, it was not limited to the Corps. I saw a lot of "self-imposed segregation" in Germany, Vietnam, and Korea.

MSG Stan Hutchison during the same time period I'd imagine it was. Big difference (I'd hope) was access to grenades and firearms wasn't common.
A big part in the Corps' cause was blamed on it being the only time they took draftees. I remember at the induction center when the had the draftees count-off. They had all of those with a specified number, like 1 or 3 step forward then told them to follow the Marine and told them they were going to the Corps. OUCH
