We can't allow police to become an occupying force, armed to the teeth and patrolling in armored vehicles, we need to demand that they become vital parts of the communities they are policing.

I wholeheartedly agree. This was absolutely avoidable. I don't wish this on anyone.

I am not defending the police actions in this event as I believe they were absolutely wrong...in every action taken with Mr Thompson. However, a comment in the article stated "The incident also raises questions about the militarization of law enforcement, as departments across the country increasingly use armored vehicles and assault rifles to fight crime." I believe police forces should have every tool they need to protect themselves and their communities. Right now their sensitivities to any action are heightened and they are on the defensive to protect themselves.

Still, in no way, does not make this case right or justified!!!

My prayers go out for this family and this community for healing.

I want police officers to be safe, however not if that means they are patrolling our streets, sitting in armored vehicles behind a machine gun. They need to be on foot, talking to the people they meet and getting to know the community instead of simply occupying the community.
