Even I'm not old enough to have used one of these! I did try to figure it out once in high school when my math teacher brought one in, but got lost pretty quickly.

They're not that rough, I gather Asianmkids are taught to ise them in Asian countries practically from infancy, to the point of their use being an almost unconditioned response, I'd expect, they've been culturally accepted there for generations, thats why, I'd imagine, you know?
