Ah yes. Tuefelsberg, also known as Devil's Mountain. The highest location in Berlin. Created from the rubble of WW2. Believe it or not, underneath all that rubble are the ruins of a Nazi military and technical university. Instead of destroying the school totally, the allied forces just created the highest point in Berlin.
I remember being on top of the main building on either Christmas or New Years Eve in 1980 watching fireworks over the main part of the city with a British RAF individual (they had their own section there) and another of my shift mates. The Brit offered me a drink from his flask to celebrate, but I turned him down. I should have said yes.
This station was manned by members of Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), along with Company's A and B, United States Army Field Station Berlin, as well as members of the 6912th Electronic Security Group, USAF. And before these units, the venerable Army Security Agency (ASA) operated there. Plenty of DoD civilians milling about as well. As I said, the British Army and RAF operated some sort of activity there as well.
When I look back on those years, it was an important mission being performed way in the middle of East Germany, surrounded by the Soviet and East German armies.
I learned a lot from being stationed there. Sorry to see what has become of this site.

I was the Navy equivalent of a CTT. Had my training at NTTC Corry Station, twice. Nice place to be trained.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I spent my first five years in the Army in the Army Security Agency, until in went away in 1978, replaced by that nasty monster, INSCOM (Army Intelligence and Security Command).
