Maybe, the campus police and students should have calmly walked him to the campus cafeteria and had a pleasant, non biased conversation and talked him down!! Are these people @#$% ignorant or just want 15 minutes of fame. SMH & STFU (just learned this abbreviation tonight on RP).

As a graduate of The Ohio State University, I am surprised at how OSU and many of our liberal colleges have moved to the left, politically. The apparently have become bastions of indoctrination instead of education. A free discussion of ideas is no longer desired because people may disagree or feel uncomfortable, requiring 'trigger' words and 'safe spaces' to avoid such harmful exchange of ideas.
When I attended, we still had Woody Hayes, preachers on the Oval discussing/arguing their viewpoints about religion with less supportive students, a desire for the free exchange of ideas and thought with an emphasis on learning about the differences each student possessed and some of our professors may have been Conservatives, registered as Republicans.
I fear that today, most professors and members of the campus administration are card carrying members of the democrat, socialist or progressive liberal parties, who propose inclusiveness and acceptance, but only to the point that the ideas match what they believe. It is as if everything is opposite than what it should be. Although I was taught the perception is your reality, when I see a young male refugee of middle eastern origin running people over with his car and then using a butcher knife to attack people, my perception is that he is mentally deranged or a terrorist. When I further learn that he had been radicalized, my perception is that he is a radical Islamic terrorist, bent on creating mayhem. At no time does my perception infer a reality that this is a 'confused' student under the stress of studying, who needs to be calmed and comforted. My perception and training, concludes that the terrorist needs to be disarmed, disabled or killed not coddled and treated as a misguided teenager.
Our political and education systems, media and uncontrolled immigration is creating defenseless snowflakes, whose sense of reality is so skewed, that Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton are all considered rational political leaders in our country. Reality will bite these snowflakes, when they are being attacked by the enemy, while they wonder why and do nothing.

I consider myself a liberal and a democrat. I also am well educated and finishing a third master's - all from top 10 and top 20 universities.
I also grew up in the military, spent 15 years+ on Wall Street and have a concealed carry permit/weapon.
The media over plays this "trigger word" and other nonsense. With all my education, only one professor at UT had a liberal agenda and the moron taught ethics. This type of viewpoint is overblown by the right wing media.
The left, however equally ignores financial impacts of bringing refugees here and the impact of background checks done in a vacuum of a war torn region.
Simply put, the truth is in between. But, I believe that a good start would be to require all individuals, w few exceptions, to do two years of community service - first responders, military, building homes, etc. this will teach, I hope, those with no clear world experience some foundations of life. But maybe I'm too optimistic for thes idiots.

SPC Steve Bright - I like your optimism but suspect that we will continue to have ill-informed in our world. As much as we might like everyone to learn through service, that makes too much sense. The federal government currently employs politicians, civil servants and those receiving 'entitlements'. Some earn there take through work (adding something to society) while the others just fee from the trough. I would like to see those who draw from the government, except Social Security, Medicare and disability, should provide something in return that benefits society. This could be performing community service, much like FDR's CCC, WPA and other work programs. But, I fear our professional civil servants would revolt, if such a program were started.

Col Scott Harrison, I agree that there would be a revolt in DC over making young men and woman server their country/community in some capacity. That is a sad statement, but true. What needs to be done and what can be done are sadly far apart.
As for those individuals at OSU that showed compassion for the attacker, I believe they should be carefully monitored themselves. They are just as far out of touch with reality as the attacker and I hope they get help. I know... optimistic...
