All that changed is who the Kings and Lords names. We now have Presidents and Congresses. And all the minor royalty in the states.

To be fair, We didn't escape a monarchy. That happened long, long ago. Still, it is a valid question. But, again to be fair, we don't treat them as monarchs. We treat them as celebrities (possibly worse). Serving in Congress should be like jury duty, a citizens obligation, and friends and family can lament the intrusion into your life when you receive your summons. And while we're on the subject, I've always been fascinated by the manner in which American celebrities jump at the chance for an audience with The Queen and bow and curtsy in her presence. Don't get me wrong. I have great respect for Queen Elizabeth. She served with distinction during WWII and in her role as the monarch of England, but she's not my Queen and I thank God that I owe her nothing beyond the respect that I would render to any other good citizen of the world

Hmm... there was a monarchy when the pilgrims fled and settled in Plymouth. Based on what was taught, I believed they indeed fled. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_I_of_England
Charles I of England - Wikipedia
Charles I (19 November 1600– 30 January 1649)[a] was monarch of the three kingdoms of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 27 March 1625 until his execution in 1649.

SN (Join to see) - That was a long, long time ago. I didn't flee a monarchy. I'm old, really old, but not that old. Are you?
