That is a critically short capability, even amongst our allies. We had borrowed Norway's minesweepers once upon a time.

Thanks for reminding us LTC (Join to see) about an arms race which is just below the surface - sea based mines and the technologies to find and disable or destroy them via sweeping, etc.

PO3 John Wagner - I'm tired of the battles in Congress and the Potus when we need to focus on Canadian,American and other allies in and out of NATO that may support us in a future war.

PO3 John Wagner
LTC (Join to see) - I can scarcely say I understand the concept of war anymore. In desert storm we went in and pulverized the largest military force in the Middle East in days. Then we spend ever after fighting what is essentially an unwinnable battle against guerilla forces who blend in with the population. With today's weapons and technology the United States can pretty much decimate any aggressors major military weaponry and their ground forces in nothing flat. Wars against terror are fought against sophisticated criminals who have no problem using civilians as body armor. They will kill hundreds of their own people just to inflict a small loss against us. Covert operations against these people are completely justified at all times. They do not follow any traditional warfare tequniques employed by nations either to protect or take territory.
They have no uniforms or organizational structure as we understand it. They are gangsters. What brought such people to power is not an illegitimate complaint on their part. The Western powers did treat that part of the world like all colonial nations.
It was convienent for us to install local rulers. When they became despotic we were slow to respond. The status quo of our vested business interests took priority over humanitarian concerns. We have been reaping that whirlwind for at least 40 years now in the Middle East. Western powers were the source of the infection... now we have no viable cure.
