I was a civil Affairs officer project at provincial reconstruction team Farah in late 2008 through May, 2009.
We tried to help the people with Wheat Seed so they would plant that instead of Opium. We did a lot there. Now it looks like it was all a waste if the Base is probably occupied by the Enemy and the local government is on the run or fighting for its life.
Now I'm hearing that A-10 Warthogs are there trying to hold off the Taliban from taking over the provincial government capital. It's so sad that we pulled back so much from this area. At one time, the city was 3 miles away from our PRT. If we had the F-35 doing this job it would not have the two hours dwell time that the A-10 Warthog has. The brianiacs in the Pentagon coming up with a plane that does not fit kind of like the ACU uniform.

The A-10s have a huge advantage of rounds carried vs the fighter planes. If I have to make an analogy, the A-10 is heavy cavalry, and the fighters light cavalry.

My Baby is turning into the evil dead. I put 2 million dollars into this area. Schools, wells, Madrassa (which became Taliban and built before my tenure), solar lights, morgue for the hospital. Step down area for the hospital, new generators for the hospital, computers, vehicles for the city managers, armoured vehicles (team before me) for the Provincial Governor, buildings and repairing wells all over. It is upsetting.
