Capt Daniel Goodman The Air Force Recognition Ribbon is given for outstanding achievement at the Air Force Level. Every year the Air Force selects the 12 outstanding Airmen of the year. They come from a cross section of the force. Each of them wears it. Each career field has the option to select the Best in the career field every year at the Airman, NCO, SNCO, and Company Grade levels. If selected as the best in the Air Force, they are entitled to wear the ribbon. I personal wear it as I was selected as the Air Force's Outstanding SNCO for Intelligence in 2004. It is an honor to be selected and I wore it proudly. It is also in the ribbon rack inside of my shadow box. If I am correct, it also is worth points toward promotion.

You’re not too far off! It appears this ribbon has been around since 1980 but I never heard of it before. I have heard of the Outstanding Airman of the Year award and ribbon given to 12 enlisted members from various AF commands. I was selected as the 1988 SAC 12 Outstanding Airman of the Year in the NCO category. I wasn’t selected as one of the 12 for the Air Force but that’s ok. I did get to have lunch with CINCSAC along with a number of other nominees – and didn’t have to pay for it. That was kinda spiffy!

Capt Daniel Goodman looks like an honor grad would get it. maybe a winner of a bomb comp or Red Flag exercise or any exercise for that matter.

I follow, one of the other answers on here went into it in rather more detail, if you get a chance to read it, he'd gotten it as a MAJCOM winner, I hadn't realized it was done that way, once he explained it, obviously, I completely understood, many thanks in any event, though, of course....
