Women have always been part of militaries and countries war effort. They are needed.
What is lost in all this diversity/PC stuff is the following: The military''s mission is to win wars. Not make sure % is correct, or standards are lowered for anyone to call themselves U.S. military.

And the standards should be mission driven, not increased to prevent those capable of performing any mission, but invading the fraternal order. As in anything, right sizing requires some give up their share. It's fair. Be fair.

This is something that has been a long time coming. Nations like Canada and Israel have always had women in their ranks and not just in support MOSs. My main gripe (if you can call it that) is that the Air Force is pioneering it.
(grumble) The Army should have been doing it first (grumble, grumble)
