Sounds like the Army's Specialist ranks where there were different tiers and soldiers who didn't want the responsibility of being a NCO.

As a Specialist/E-4 I served as the Battalion S-1 NCOIC and Liaison during the Mid-Planning Conference; as a Sergeant I served as a Brigade level NCOIC, and; after becoming a SSG I spearheaded the Admin-Log Section during the Joint Readiness Training Exercise at PTA, which was a showcase for the Joint Chiefs. This was before I began my journey of becoming a commissioned officer.

Sir, I'm not saying all SPCs avoid leadership responsibilities. I guess I structured my sentence wrong. My reference to the Army SPCs that didn't want leadership responsibilities were to say some SPCs prefer to just do their job at a Skill Level one. That part is what reminds me of the USAF AMC pilot program where, in an attempt to maintain their pilots, the AF ask them what they wanted to do in their careers. Of course there are SPCs that work above their pay grade. I was a squad leader for a mortar squad as a SPC. Then as a SGT I have rated time serving in both E-6 and E-7 positions.
Also, sounds like you had a very challenging, yet rewarding career on the enlisted side!

SSG (Join to see), the road was tough, yet when your superiors challenge you to achieve much more than your grade or rank expectations and you are successful using peers and subordinates in achieving set goals, the feeling is awesome; much better than any award or reward. My Team members were promoted ahead of peers and I was strongly recommended and selected to become a Commissioned Officer.

...Not quite sure you're aware of the multitude of leadership duties and responsibilities some of the people who had specialist ranks had, or have(?) - Its a common misconception that senior spec 5-7's never had leadership roles, or command duties . I can tell you from experience that's one of the furthest things from the truth (at least during my AD time).

SFC (Join to see) I don't doubt it. My caption wasn't meant to mean it in a negative way of the program the air force tried. I was simply stating that it's similar to me in the way that the pilots want to fly, the same as SPCs and below (generally speaking) like to be the work force of their MOS. Additionally, there are several SPCs I've known both on the Active and Reserve side that don't want leadership responsibilities. Inevitably, they're forced one way or another.
